A note on rates

Like many editors, I charge project rates. I will provide a precise quote for your project after reviewing a sample of the text. The project and per word rates indicated on this page are for general reference only.

Developmental EditING

A developmental edit takes place early in the writing process, once you have completed at least a first draft. This type of edit can help solve problems with plot, structure, character, and setting. I make big-picture comments and suggestions directly in your manuscript file, but do not correct for spelling, grammar, or style. I also provide a detailed editorial letter (5-10 pages) summarizing my findings and suggesting strategies and resources to help you move forward.

Manuscript Evaluation

The manuscript evaluation is an affordable option for authors who want professional editorial feedback before embarking on a big-picture revision, but do not have the time or budget for a full developmental edit. It comes with a detailed editorial letter, but does not include any in-manuscript comments.

Rates start at $500 per manuscript. Contact me for a quote.

copyediting and line editing

Copyediting and line editing help strengthen your prose at the sentence level.

Copyediting focuses on grammar, spelling, punctuation, and internal consistency.

Line editing focuses on clarity, logic, and flow.

You can request copyediting and line editing individually, or as a single editorial pass.

Proofreading

A proofread is a final check of your edited manuscript, usually completed once the book is formatted for publication. In this type of edit, I’m looking for absolute errors only.
